Biographical Sketch

Janie is a clinical social worker who has worked primarily in the field of domestic violence for 17 years. She has been in private practice since 2008. Previous to that Janie supervised and managed the domestic violence counselling programs for men and women at the YWCA in Calgary. Janie was nominated, in 2009, for the Jerry Selinger award in Calgary for ‘outstanding work with domestic violence. She co-published a chapter in the book, ‘What’s Law Got to do With it,’ specifically focusing on the dedicated domestic violence court system in Calgary. Janie is also a contributor to the provincial manual, ‘Violence Knows No Boundaries.’ Janie participated in numerous research projects with Resolve, AB. She has conducted numerous workshops for shelters and mental health professionals on ‘how’ to work with perpetrators and victims of domestic violence. Janie has also taught ‘communication studies’ at Mount Royal University. Janie has more recently co-founded and been co-facilitating the Exploring Solutions domestic abuse group counselling programs for those involved with Children’s Services.
